With hundreds of stunning wedding venues in Scotland, picking the top 5 for a ‘best of’ list is a near impossible task.  Scotland’s history has left the country bursting at the seams with world class wedding venues so it is understandable why couples from not just Scotland and the rest of the UK, but the world also, come here to celebrate their union.  As one of Scotland and the UK’s leading wedding videography companies having filmed almost 150 weddings, White Balloon Films has had the privilege of filming at a host of outstanding venues and it is based on this experience that we pick our top 5 best Scottish wedding venues.  Of course, the perfect venue for one couple might be the least suitable venue for another.  These days there is more choice than ever should you wish a Scottish castle wedding, a rustic, DIY farm wedding or an elegant, luxury hotel wedding.  Take what we say with a pinch of salt but enjoy browsing through some footage from some of the best wedding venues in the world!  In no particular order…

#1: Blairquhan Castle: Ayrshire

Changing hands in 2012, Blairquhan Castle has enjoyed a renovation that has not only preserved the heritage and opulence of the Regency architecture but also updated the wedding venue to cater for the needs of discerning couples who seek an exclusive use, luxury Scottish wedding venue in the heart of Ayrshire.  The building is absolutely immaculate inside and out.  White Balloon Films has filmed several weddings at Blairquhan Castle, each time characterised by the sense of calm and tranquility that comes from being in the heart of the Ayrshire countryside. With three separate venues for your ceremony, drinks reception and dinner, couples are able to enjoy the space and sense of occasion that comes from having a private, exclusive use venue like Blairquhan Castle. Moreover, from a photography and videography perspective, we too are spoilt with not only the immediate grounds of the castle that include a picturesque lake and pier but also a walled garden that offers all manner of creative opportunities to make the most of our skills as filmmakers. All-in-all, a fantastic venue that deservedly takes a spot in our top 5 wedding venues in Scotland!

#2: Hopetoun House: Edinburgh

As we said above, Scotland is furnished with some of the finest wedding venues in the UK and the world.  That being said, there are not quite enough superlatives to describe one of Edinburgh’s best, Hopetoun House.  White Balloon Films has been lucky enough to film several times at this genuinely magnificent venue and each time we were blown away by the grandeur and sense of occasion.  From the almost rustic yet contemporary ceremony hall to stately home, museum-esq drinks reception drawing rooms to the epically glamorous ballroom, Hopetoun House has it all. What’s more, with a thriving farming enterprise on the 6500 acre Hopetoun estate, how better to relax after your big day than with a little clay pigeon shooting! Now, if Hopetoun House is a little to grand for your tastes, try wedding venue number 3 for size and see what you think of Crear!

#3: Crear: West Coast Scotland

Crear Weddings took the wedding venue rule book and threw it in the bin.  Situated 3 hours from Glasgow and 4 hours from Edinburgh at the end of a 30 minute drive down a single-track road on the west coast of Scotland, it does take a bit of getting to but it is worth every second!  As one of the first wedding venues in Scotland to provide couples with a viable and practical solution for achieving a rustic, farm wedding, Crear has rightfully claimed the top spot for such weddings.  From a photography and videography perspective, Crear not only offers the surrounds of the famous, red roofed converted farm buildings but also easy access to the stunning Cretshengan Bay with its white sands and ancient ruins.  Add into the mix the tremendous hospitality extended to guests and suppliers by the team at Crear and you will understand why this Scottish wedding venue makes the White Balloon Films ‘best of’ top 5!

#4: Signet Library: City Centre Edinburgh

The Heritage Portfolio in Edinburgh looks after some of the capital’s finest venues, of which the aforementioned Hopetoun House is one.  Let’s say however you want a city centre wedding in Edinburgh with all the splendour of Hopetoun House…simple…the Signet Library.  Like Hopetoun House, the majesty of the Signet Library is hard to put into words.  Situated in Parliament Square adjacent to St Giles’ Cathedral, the Signet Library is the epitome of prestigious, Georgian elegance and really has to be seen to be believed.  With that in mind, in the White Balloon Films wedding video below you can see how the Lower Library is used as a spectacular setting for the wedding ceremony before the guests decant upstairs to the Upper Library to enjoy a wedding reception in one of the most opulent reception venues we have ever seen.

#5: Inverlochy Castle: Glencoe, Fort William

The word “exclusive” comes to mind when you pull up to Inverlochy Castle and are greeted by the sight of Inverlochy Castle‘s enormous blue Rolls Royce sitting at the entrance of this luxury wedding venue in the Scottish Highlands.  As you are guided through the doors by accommodating and courteous doormen, the sense of exclusivity and luxury steps up a gear as you start to take in the not only the wedding venue itself but the majestic location just outside Fort William, near Scotland’s finest, Glencoe.  White Balloon Films was lucky enough to film the elopement of a couple from New Zealand who sealed their union in the enchanting, fairytale woods in the grounds of the Inverlochy estate.  There after, we were but a stones throw from some of the most extraordinary Scottish scenery in the form of Glencoe and Glenfinnan where we filmed some of the most fantastic aerial videography we have ever captured.  With all of this in mind, we have no hesitation in listing Inverlochy Castle as one of the best wedding venues in Scotland and the UK.
